The hawkmoth fauna of Pakistan (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae).
This study represents the first complete modern account of the Sphingidae of Pakistan and takes the form of an annotated checklist, based on several national collections and those of a number of individuals. Of the 60 species and subspecies found, 14 are new records to the fauna of Pakistan, namely Agnosia orneus, Langia zenzeroides subsp. zenzeroides, Polyptychus trilineatus subsp. trilineatus...
متن کاملHawk moths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) of Turkey and their zoogeographical distribution.
The family Sphingidae (Lepidoptera) has 63 species in the western Palaearctic Region of the world. Thirty-four out of 63 species present in Turkey either permanently or temporarily. The subfamilies Smerinthinae, Sphinginae and Macroglossinae are consisted of 7, 4, and 23 species respectively Ten out of 34 species were captured in the field. Available knowledge of Sphingidae of Turkey was evalua...
متن کاملMitochondrial genome of the sweet potato hornworm, Agrius convolvuli (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae), and comparison with other Lepidoptera species.
In the present study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Agrius convolvuli (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) and compared it with previously sequenced mitogenomes of lepidopteran species. The mitogenome was a circular molecule, 15 349 base pairs (bp) long, containing 37 genes. The order and orientation of genes in the A. convolvuli mitogenome were similar to those in sequenc...
متن کاملThe Occurrence of a Neotropical Hawkmoth in Southern Portugal: Agrius Cingulatus (fabricius, 1775) (lepidoptera: Sphingidae)
During September 2002 a male individual of the hawkmoth species Agrius cingulatus (Fabricius, 1775) was caught in southern Portugal which is perhaps the first specimen arriving unassisted and the third occurrence within the European continent in the last 276 years. The occurrence is discussed with some ideas on its origin.
متن کاملPhylogeny and Biogeography of Hawkmoths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae): Evidence from Five Nuclear Genes
BACKGROUND The 1400 species of hawkmoths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) comprise one of most conspicuous and well-studied groups of insects, and provide model systems for diverse biological disciplines. However, a robust phylogenetic framework for the family is currently lacking. Morphology is unable to confidently determine relationships among most groups. As a major step toward understanding relat...
